Currently on the Final Day of July

Here's what is currently going on in my world on the last day of July, 2025.

The weather is hot, but we have actually had fewer days over 100 degrees than we usually do.  We have had an extremely dry summer, and need rain, which just doesn't seem to come.

I'm reading The Second Mrs. Astor by Shana Abe.  I just started it a couple of days ago, but I am really enjoying this historical fiction.  I'm also reading an inspirational nonfiction book, Life Lessons by Trina Boice.

I'm working on updating and writing down all of our usernames and passwords. I have needed to do this for a long time.

I'm also working on getting rid of things we no longer need like this load we took to donate at a local thrift store on Thursday.  We are planning to take another load to donate tomorrow.

I'm loving this cool family crossword puzzle that I ordered. I honestly don't usually order things I see on Facebook, but when I saw this family crossword puzzle art, I had to have it. It arrived this past week, and I am very pleased with how it turned out.  I plan to put it up in our new home after we move in a few months.

I'm also loving the variety of flowers currently out in bloom in my yard.

I'm looking forward to finishing my teaching career this coming school year.  Next week is my LAST first day back to school.  This has been my FINAL summer break.  Next summer will be my first as a retired teacher, and I am excited about and looking forward to that!

I've been enjoying occasional Diet Coke floats this summer.  I have been pleasantly surprised that a small amount of vanilla ice cream in some Diet Coke does not seem to bother my sometimes lactose-intolerant stomach.

I'm celebrating this sweet granddaughter's 11th birthday this weekend.  We will be seeing her and taking out for her birthday lunch on Monday.

In the kitchen we had a "clean-out-the-fridge" night.  I had half of a calzone we bought at the grocery store a couple of days ago, along with a few left-over tater tots and a green salad with tomatoes from my garden.

I'm grateful for Josh's help as we work on getting rid of some things we've had in our shed and garage way too long.  As we prepare to put our current house on the market in less than a year, it feels good to get rid of things we don't need.

That's all for now.  Thanks for stopping by to visit.  Have a good weekend!

Until next time,
😊Deb💖

  2. We have so many passwords that my husband, Danny, keeps them on a spreadsheet. How techie is that? Enjoy this last year of teaching, get your ducks in a row, and enjoy retirement. It is wonderful, Deb. Blessings!

  3. It's been very hot and dry here too. We were thankful to have 1/2 inch of rain yesterday. Prior to that, we've only had 1 inch since June 1.
    I love your crossword art!
Good job on continuing the clean out. It really does feel good to do that.
Happy Birthday to your sweet granddaughter. I know you'll enjoy spending time with her on Monday.
I'm ever so happy that next summer you will be retired!

  4. Well done with the decluttering - doing it gradually is a good way to go. We did the same when we moved a few years back. Once we'd decided to move we gradually got rid of all the things we didn't want to take with us. Happy birthday to your granddaughter - enjoy your lunch outing. And your flowers are lovely.

  6. What a good week you've had of purging old junk and getting that new family puzzle photo LOVE it. I've never ordered off of social media although i've looked up things I've seen on there. I'll have to research this puzzle company. that would make a fun gift for a family member I need to buy a birthday gift for.
Your granddaughter is a cutie lying there reading.
LOVE all the summer blooms. I hope you get some rain soon. We finally had a complete day of soaking rain (in fact, downstate in NYC area they had some major flooding!) which wiped out the high heat and humidity. Today is perfect so far and the beginning of the week looks glorious.
Happy almost weekend and yay for your last first day coming up soon!

  8. Your last year teaching will be a great one, I'm sure. My sister just went through that a year ago and she is enjoying retirement after 40 years. Enjoy it, Deb!

  10. Oh, the heat! It's too much. I've been dreaming of snow and cold. I recently got a password book, too. I haven't referred to it much yet – just filling it in – but that's not the point. Knowing it's there is a comfort. I'm glad you're savoring all the "lasts" in this final year of teaching.

  11. I love that family name puzzle. I play Words with Friends every day. It is like Scrabble, so that makes me think I want one of those too! Can you tell me who you ordered it from. I bet the summer went by quicky for you. But at least you know you are heading into your final year of teaching! Have a nice weekend!

  13. Did I comment? I thought I did, but I get distracted! I apologize if this is a duplicate. Anyway, I, too, have one of those password books. I ordered it from Etsy. I'm still in the filling it out phase – haven't had to refer to it yet – but just seeing it there provides me with peace of mind. I'm glad you're savoring all your last "firsts" as you enter your final year of teaching.
