This has been one of those weeks that went totally off the rails. Still, even with some very stressful moments, God was in the details and I have much to be grateful for. To give thanks for the blessings, I am joining with Susanne and friends over at Living to Tell the Story for Friday's Fave Five.

💜 Monday afternoon, Charly and I decided to go for a walk. Just as we reached our driveway at the end of the walk, Charly (who was winded due to an asthma attack) tripped and fell on his face, and he couldn't get back up. Because he is bigger than I am, I couldn't really help him. I actually called 9-1-1 three times to ask for help and got a recording that no one was available to help me. WHAT??? As I was trying to figure out how to get Charly up, an HVAC tech van that was driving down our street pulled over the curb. The driver had seen me struggling to help Charly up, and this large and muscular young man, who was a total stranger, ran over to us and literally lifted Charly back on his feet. I am not sure why that truck with that very kind and very husky driver was driving down our street at just that moment, but I am sure that God was involved. I am so grateful that Charly was able to get back on his feet so I could drive him to the hospital.

💜 The first emergency room I took Charly to, was at a large regional hospital in our area about four miles from our home. The place was packed and we were told it would be a 2-3 hour wait until Charly could be seen and evaluated. I decided that wouldn't do, so I took him to another, smaller hospital that is actually closer to our home, and Charly was seen and evaluated within 30 minutes. After x-rays and a CT scan, we still spent over three hours in the emergency room, but at least Charly was getting the attention and care he needed. I am grateful that we have good medical care close at hand and that Charly got the emergency evaluation and care he needed after his fall. I am also grateful that the CT scan showed that Charly had no bleeding on his brain, a real concern after his brain aneurysm five years ago.

💜 After the emergency room doctor was sure that Charly was stabilized, he was released to come home, and told that he needed to follow-up with a hand surgeon. The next morning, we went to a large orthopedic clinic in our area and Charly got more x-rays and was seen by an orthopedic hand specialist. At first the fear was that Charly had broken two bones in his wrist and would need surgery. A CT scan showed that only one bone was broken, so no surgery was needed. Charly was placed in a temporary splint and will get a more permanent cast when the swelling in his hand goes down. I am grateful that Charly won't need hand surgery.

💜 I also took Charly for a follow-up visit with our primary care physician who read the reports from the hospital and was satisfied that Charly is in good health, other than the injury, and will heal up. He recommended that we join a gym or fitness center, because sometime the air in the Salt Lake Valley is very polluted and Charly has Asthma. The doctor (and Charly) both believe that he was having an Asthma attack on our walk Monday and that was a factor in his fall. I am grateful that we have good medical care close at hand, and that Charly is basically healthy, but got some new medication to help him breath better.

💜 This picture is from last summer, but I am also so grateful for the caring support we got from our son this past week. Josh has called multiple times each day. He is a busy guy, with a full-time class schedule and job and last week was finals week, but he was concerned about Charly and kept up on everything that was happening with hospitals, doctors and medical procedures. We didn't tell a lot of people what happened, and I don't post much on Facebook, but I appreciate texts, calls, messages and prayers from the people we did tell - our daughter, our 17-year-old grandson and my blogging friend and prayer-partner Faith over at Gold in the Clouds. I believe that prayer makes a difference and I am always grateful for caring family and friends and blessings that come through prayer.

💜 I am grateful that I had this delightful and heartwarming Christmas book, A Christmas Memory by Richard Paul Evans, to read on the Kindle app on my phone. Waiting at hospitals and doctor's office can be boring and nerve wracking, and this book helped me get through it all. I finished the book last night and gave it 5/5 stars. It was the perfect book for me to read during an often trying week. I'll do a more complete review in my December Reading Roundup.
💜 We are starting to get some Christmas cards from friends and family and I am so grateful for all those who keep in touch and reach out to say "Merry Christmas." Although fewer and fewer people seem to be sending cards, we enjoy each card we receive. Hearing from those we care about is one of my favorite parts of Christmas!
Thanks for joining me to review the blessings in my often stressful week. I am grateful for each reader and friend I have made in blogland! Have a good weekend.
Until next time,
