Snowy March Weekend

Our first weekend of March definitely "came in like a lion" with lots of wind and several inches of snow here in the Intermountain West.  Here are some of the highlights in my world.

Friday was a cloudy and blustery day. While I was at school, Charly worked out in the garage, moving things around to make room for the new car.  We have a large garage, but we still have quite a few things in it from when we moved last summer.  This come summer, we definitely need to get better organized and purge more things that just sitting in our garage and shed.

Friday evening after dinner, we were going to go walk at the rec center, but we were a little slow getting dinner over, and the rec center closes early (at 7 p.m.) on Friday nights.  Instead, I went out for an early evening power walk around the neighborhood.   It was a nice evening and I enjoyed the walk.

Saturday morning we went to pick up our new car and bring it home.  It's a great car!

After driving home, the new CRV has 11 miles on it!

The new car is now home and safely tucked away in the garage, which is the best place for it to be with all of the snow we got this weekend.

After bringing the new car home, Charly and I went up to the rec center and we both walked over two miles around the track.

I also stopped in at the library adjacent to the rec center and checked out this book, Bad Therapy - Why the Kids Aren't Growing Up by Abigail Shrier.  I read this author's first book, Irreversible Damage, which was about the social contagion of transgenderism and it was excellent - troubling - but excellently researched and written.  I am sure this book, Bad Therapy will be equally as excellent and probably troubling.

After a very windy Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon the snow started.   The snow accumulated quickly, even on the roads, so we spent our Saturday afternoon and evening at home.

By Saturday night, we had several inches of wet, heavy snow.  This is the view from our Ring Doorbell looking out onto our front yard and street.

I did some reading before bed and finished this book, The Seven Secrets of a Stress Free Life by Randal Johnson.  I'll do a little review of the book at the end of March.

We got more snow overnight and ended up with about six inches of heavy wet snow.

We shoveled our own driveway and walks and then helped our two next door neighbors (who are both women in the theirs 70s) with shoveling their walks.  I used the new ergonomic SnowJoe shovel I bought a while back.  It really works well and makes shoveling snow much easier on the back! Because we were shoveling all morning, we did not get to our church service which begins at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Back in the house after shoveling, I did my scripture reading.  Right now, I am reading the book of Job in the Old Testament, and also two verse-by-verse scripture commentary books - one about the Gospels and one about the Book of Revelation.

I also got our dinner, a crock pot recipe called Beefy Country Casserole, ready and in the slow cooker.   I made it with plant based Impossible Beef, so it would be a bit healthier.

With dinner in the crock pot, I went for a little walk around the neighborhood.  I called my mom on the phone and we had a nice chat while I walked.   Later I had a nice phone chat with Josh as well.  Charly and I also watched our weekly scripture master class on Youtube

When I got home, it was almost time to eat dinner. Here's what the finished Beefy Country Casserole looked like. We had some Asian Salad with it.

Charly baked this frozen dessert pizza which had apple and carmel and was delicious! After dinner, we watched a documentary about archeological evidence for the scriptures. Pretty interesting and faith affirming!

Weekend Gratitude:
  • Getting our new car.
  • Having the health to help our neighbors by shoveling their walks.
  • Reading good books.
  • Having nice text conversations with our two oldest Utah grandchildren.
  • Chatting with my mom while taking a walk.
  • Selling our condo - I know it didn't happen this weekend, but seriously having it sold is such a huge relief!
It was an over good, albeit snowy, weekend.  Thanks for stopping by.  Have a great week!

Until next time,
😊Deb💖

Almost the End of February Favorites

As yet another month in this year comes to an end, it's time to think about all the things I am grateful for.  To do that, I am joining again with Susanne over at Living to Tell the Story for Friday's Fave Five.

😊 This week, I had a long weekend with Monday off, and I am always grateful for an extra day to rest, regroup and get caught up on stuff.

😊 Since I had Monday off, we decided to do some more car shopping.  By the end of the day, we had decided to put a deposit on this Ford Bronco Sport.  We were excited until Charly talked to a mechanic friend of his who told us about a problem with the fuel injectors in the Bronco Sport.  With further research, we found out that the fuel injection problems had caused engine fires, and that Ford has actually been sued over the problem.  That was a deal breaker, so I am grateful that we found out the information before the deal was closed, and I am also grateful that we were able to get our deposit back.

😊 After getting our deposit on the Ford Bronco Sport back, we decided to go with a brand new 2024 Honda CRV.  We haven't taken delivery of the car yet (still waiting for our condo to close), but I am grateful that we are getting a deal we are happy with on a car we know is reliable since we have had a 2015 Honda CRV since 2016.

😊 One day this week, I really wasn't feeling at all well.  Not sure what was up - probably stress and fatigue - but I certainly was grateful for an evening in my jammies, reading on the couch.  I went to bed early and felt much better the next morning, another thing for which I am grateful.

😊 Charly made another delicious dinner for us on Thursday night.  This is Beef Stroganoff made with Impossible Beef and it was really good.  I am so grateful for Charly's help with dinner and many other things.

😊 We have had a rainy week here. The surrounding mountains got about two feet of snow.  Once again, I am grateful that most of the snow is staying in the mountains where it is most needed for our Utah ski resorts and water supply.

I hope you have had a good week. Thanks for stopping by to share my favorites and gratitude.  Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Until next time,
😊Deb💖

Sunday

Today was a beautiful fall day around here. You can see the fall colors starting to show up on Mt.Olympus.  Charly and I spent a quiet day at home except for walking in the morning and again after dinner. Our congregation won't be having church in person again until October 11, we had church at home again. Josh left briefly around noon to help out a 99-year-old member of our congregation.

Josh has been staying busy working on homework this weekend.  Here he is taking a break between assignments in our office playing an online game with Charly.

For dinner, we had chicken. potatoes and gravy cooked in the slow cooker, along with roasted asparagus - quite good.

We have a possible buyer for our Corolla, so I cleaned it up so it will show well.  It was like saying goodbye to an old friend.

Tonight, Charly and I are relaxing and watching a PBS mystery on TV, while I write this blog post.

Coming up this week:

We have some very nice fall weather in the forecast.

Goals for this week:
  • Take delivery of our new car tomorrow night
  • Finish both of the books I am reading this week
  • Stay physically healthy by getting enough rest and exercise
  • Stay mentally healthy by staying off social media as much as possible and seeking out positive people
  • And perhaps most important...
