It's that time of the week to look back with gratitude at the blessings of the past seven days. I am doing exactly that by linking up with Susanne and friends over at Living to Tell the Story for Friday's Fave Five. Let's get started looking at the good.
Safe travels - Charly, Josh and I took a Labor Day weekend road trip to Colorado. I am grateful for a safe trip and a really nice getaway.
Beautiful hikes - while in Colorado, we enjoyed some great hiking. Here are some scenes of the Fish Creek Falls National Recreation Trail.
We also hiked Spring Creek Canyon. This canyon had two ponds which were reservoirs for the water supply for the town of Steamboat Springs, back in the early 1900s.
We also did a short evening hike along the Yampa River Core Trail. It was lovely and peaceful.
A nice place to stay - while in Colorado, we stayed in this Condo which was so roomy, comfortable and relaxing. We hope to return and stay here and enjoy the Steamboat Springs area again in the not too distant future.
Keeping in touch - we have two family birthdays (my daughter and birth mom) and an anniversary (my oldest son and his wife) in September, and I am glad that I had the time to mail out some postcards (from Colorado) and greeting cards as well as to order birthday gifts for friends and family I love and want to keep in touch with.
More flowers from Charly - He brought home lavender roses this time. This photo doesn't do them justice. The color is delicate and beautiful. He is always thinking of me.
Fresh peaches - I love fresh peaches, and I was so grateful when a teacher friend at school brought me these fresh peaches from the peach tree in her yard. We had them with our dinner on Thursday night and they tasted as good as they looked.
Help! - Thursday afternoon when I left my classroom and got in my car, it wouldn't start. It didn't feel or sound exactly like a dead battery, but something was definitely wrong. I am grateful that we have AAA (which we have had since the 80s and use at least once or twice every year). I called for assistance, and within about twenty minutes, I had a very nice female mechanic who determined that it wasn't my battery at all, but some sort of theft protection lock-out feature. She reset my vehicle and I was home safely 15 minutes later. Now the question is, what set off the anti-theft lock-out feature, which won't allow the car to start. I agree with the mechanic, that perhaps the fact that I was parked in a high school parking lot had something to do with it. I will now be parking where I can look out at my car from time to time through my classroom window.
Book club meeting - the book club I am part of had a good meeting on Thursday night. Our book club isn't large - last night we had seven women there - but the ladies who attend are all lovely women, intelligent, interesting, kind and positive. I am starting to really look forward to our meetings.
