Little Women

We've been looking forward to attending the play Little Women with our daughter and grandchildren since Christmas time.  Today was the day that we finally got to go see with highly acclaimed play with our family. 

The play was produced at Hale Center Theater in Sandy, Utah, about ten miles from where we live.  

We have been to productions at Hale Center Theater before, but not for several years.  There are multiple stages, including a theater-in-the-round in one large building.  It is a very nice place.

We met our daughter and grandchildren at the theater just after noon, and of course, we had to get some family pictures. 

Our son-in-law recently had knee replacement surgery so he didn't think he could sit a long time during the play.  Because that left an unused ticket, our ten-year-old granddaughter brought her friend along.

We had good seats that were easy to access and comfortable to sit in. While there were quite a few people there, the theater wasn't packed.

The stage, set, scenery and lighting was all phenomenal!  The actors were all first rate and the musical score was beautiful!  

Overall, I would give the story, script, production, theater and everything associated with Little Women five big stars! We enjoyed  ourselves immensely and we are so glad that we could experience this production with our daughter and grandchildren.  I am grateful for this fun family outing.

Women's Conference and the First Weekend of May

 

This past weekend was a long weekend for me because I took Thursday and Friday off as personal days to attend BYU Women's Conference at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah about 25 miles south of where I live.  This event is  a spiritual bootcamp of sorts for women, and it was wonderful! We heard amazing, inspired speakers and attended many different classes with names like "Our God is a God of Miracles," "You May Know for Yourself What is True," "Mending Hearts in Families," "Mothering When You Feel Like Surrendering" and "Marriage: Nurturing a Love That Lasts."

I had been to a BYU Women's Conference once before about 19 years ago, and I had always wanted to go again, but one thing or another got in the way.  I am so glad I was finally able to take a couple of days off and go. My daughter Tiffany attended with me (her husband held down the fort with her five children at home), and we both had a lovely time.  We enjoyed being together, had some great conversations and learned a lot about important things.  The experience was truly a blessing to both of us. 

After the final session of the conference, my daughter wanted to treat me to an all-you-can eat dinner at a place on campus, so off we went.  My picture of the food doesn't do it justice.  It was delicious! I had steak and pasta, a loaded burrito (shown in the middle) and a fresh green salad.  I was stuffed, but my daughter raved about the dessert fare, so I had 'homemade" Creamery ice cream (BYU Creamery ice cream is legendary around here.  It tastes homemade and is wonderfully good).  I also had one of the brownies this place is well-known for and it was a perfect end to a great meal eating and chatting with my daughter.  We then walked to our cars in the rain, talking all the time.  The whole experience was so much fun!

Saturday morning, Charly and I took a morning walk. The morning was cloudy, cool and breezy.  By afternoon, it was raining too. 

Some trees we passed on our walk were out in blossom and really beautiful.  They  won't look this pretty in a few days. 

We also passed these lilacs on our walk.  Lilacs are some of my favorite spring flowers. 

My favorite variegated purple tulips still looked pretty yesterday, but they won't last much longer either.  I am planning to dig up the bulbs and replant them at the house we are moving to. 

Later we had some errands to run and we stopped at a couple of thrift stores.  I got three books at one of the thrift stores.  Charly has read the book based on The Chosen series and said it was very good, so I was glad to find a copy.  The other two RaeAnne Thayne books will be fun at Christmas time, even though it's months away.

We stopped and picked up season 3 of The Chosen on DVD which we had pre-ordered from a Christian bookstore a few weeks ago.  We love this series and plan to watch one episode every Sunday evening.  

While we were out shopping, my birth mother texted me and asked if I had watched the coronation of King Charles III.  I hadn't. She had.  She told me that she has always loved the history of the British monarchy, so while we were out, I got these two books for her at Barnes and Noble. This will be her Mother's Day gift. 

Later on, I wrapped her gift, which I will get to deliver to her in person next Sunday, because my older sister decided, very spur of the moment, to fly to Denver next weekend as a Mother's Day surprise.  She told me about it and I decided to join her, so our mother will have her three daughters (my younger sister lives with her) with her on Mother's Day.  Our brother, the oldest of our mother's four children, won't be able to be there. Our birth mother is now 84-years-old, and while she seems to be doing well now, she has had some health problems, so we both thought we needed to visit her again as soon as possible.  

We had tickets to the Salt Lake Bees, our city's AAA baseball team for Saturday evening, but it was cloudy, cold and rainy - not the most enjoyable weather for sitting outside and watching a baseball game.  The tickets were free for teacher appreciation week, so we decided to stay cozy, warm and dry at home Saturday night. 

Sunday morning we were off to church. One of the hymns we sang was O Lord of Hosts. What a wonderful message of the salvation Jesus offers us!  

Sunday was another cool, cloudy and rainy day.

Our Sunday dinner was beans and rice made with Impossible Beef which is made with plant protein. It was very good and we were pleased with the Impossible Beef. We also had roasted asparagus.  Now that dinner is over, we are watching The Chosen.  Later, I will probably exercise downstairs again because it is currently raining outside. 

As the new week begins, I am reading What's So Amazing About Grace by Philip Yancey and Hiding in Park City by RaeAnne Thayne.  Both books are on my Kindle. I am also listening to the audiobook, How Will You Measure Your Life? by Clayton Christensen.  

Weekend Gratitude

Monday - Staff meeting after school. Last one of the school year! 

Thursday - Our oldest daughter's 42nd birthday. How is this possible??

Friday - Our oldest grandson's 16th birthday. Where do the years go?

Friday Night- leaving for a weekend in Denver and a visit with my mom and sisters. Charly will hold down the fort here at home.
