Because this was another holiday week, and I lost track of what day of the week it was, I will start this weekend post with Thursday, New Year's Day.
Other than walking at the mall and stopping off at the grocery store in the morning, we spent New Year's Day at home. It rained all day, but still no snow here. In the evening, we went to an excellent concert with the well-known, Grammy-nominated violinist, Jenny Oaks Baker. The concert was amazing. The music touched my heart and soul. I am so glad that Charly and I decided to get tickets and go. The venue for the concert The Murray Theater, is an old movie theater that was built in 1938, closed in the 90s and then was restored and reopened as a concert venue. Charly and I used to go to movies there when we were dating, and it brought back some good memories to go there for this concert.
Friday morning, we got a late start on our walk at the mall, so the stores were opening up by the time we arrived. We took our walk and then stopped at a couple of stores to check out some after-Christmas sales. Charly got a game he had been wanting that was marked down 40%. I stopped into an Aeropostale store that is closing at our mall. Everything in the store was 70% off. I ended up getting a couple of pair of jeans for Josh and one pair for me. Three pair of Aeropostale jeans for less than $60 is pretty good, at least I thought so.
Friday nights, we went to our 14-year-old grandson's wrestling meet. These are some pictures. He is the one in black in the pictures. It was fun to watch him wrestle. He did very well, and I am very grateful that Charly and I could be there to see him wrestle.
Later on Saturday afternoon, we went computer shopping. I have been using a ten-year-old MacBook Air since 2016, and it was clearly time for an update and upgrade. After looking at what the Apple store at the mall had to offer, we went to a custom computer store that has built computers for Charly and Josh. I decided to go with a computer from that place, which will look like this, but is now being put together with my custom specifications - including lots of memory for my photos.
I made some slow cooker beef and broccoli for our Saturday night dinner. We had the beef and broccoli over white rice with green salad and French bread. It was quite good.
Sunday, we were up and off to church earlier than usual because our church was having a special meeting of three congregations combined. There were more people there than usual.
The congregation we have been attending was discontinued, and we will be going to church at the same building, but with a new, larger congregation. There just weren't enough people in our old congregation to sustain it.
After church, but before lunch, I went for a walk around the neighborhood. It was a gray and cloudy day and it was quite breezy but not very cold.
After the walk, I ate lunch, then took a nice Sunday afternoon nap. When I got up, I called my aunt, and we had a very nice chat.
Sunday dinner was the leftovers of the slow-cooker beef broccoli I made on Saturday. Honestly, I tasted even better the second day.
After dinner, we watched a movie on Netflix - Breakdown:1975. It is definitely worth watching, especially for anyone who remembers the year 1975. I was in high school that year. After watching this documentary, I did some reading to relax before bed.
Now for a couple of random things from this weekend. My Christmas Cactus continues to bloom. The picture doesn't do the beauty of the blossoms justice. It really brightens my dining room.
Charly gave me a "mystery puzzle" for Christmas, and I started on it yesterday. The new sorting trays I got will make it easier, because there is no complete puzzle picture to go by. Instead, there are written clues to help determine what should be in the picture. I think it will be a little challenging, but I'm up for it. So far, I am sorting pieces and working on the edges. Anyone else every done a puzzle like this?

- Josh as he moves into his own place later this week.
- Charly and I as we close on our new house and start moving.

- Closing on our new house tomorrow afternoon.
- Josh moving into his own place next weekend.
- Getting back to school and moving closer to retirement in about five months.
- Getting my new computer in about a week.
