First Week of March Hodgepodge

1. What do you love most about March?

The things I love most about March are warmer temperatures and the official arrival of spring.  My oldest granddaughter has a birthday in March and I am looking forward to taking her to breakfast to celebrate.

2. Did you know March is National Celery Month? Do you like celery? What's something you make (or like to order out) that calls for celery?

I am basically ambivalent about celery.  I don’t eat it raw, but will put it in some recipes like soups and stews.  It isn’t one of my favorite foods.

3. _______________ is the soundtrack to my life right now.

Don’t Stop Thinking about Tomorrow” by Fleetwood Mac

4. Share a favorite motivational quote for overcoming challenges.

“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” - Maya Angelou

5. The Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday this year. Do you participate in Lent in some way?

I am not Catholic, and my church does not celebrate Ash Wednesday and Lent per se, but we do believe in and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter.  It is the most important day on the Christian calendar.

6. Insert your own random thoughts here. Here are a few things that have been on my mind.

  • We had tickets to go to see the play Little Women with our daughter and her family on Saturday.  Today, we found out that our son-in-law had partial knee replacement surgery last week and will need some more time to heal, so we will put off the play until April.

  • We are having another rainy day today.  The storm is supposed to stay around for several days and turn to snow tomorrow night.  I'm ready for spring.

  • I watched most of President Trump’s speech to Congress last night because I am usually interested in current events and politics.  It was a super long speech and I didn’t make it all the way to the end. Overall, I agreed with much of what Trump had to say.  I admit to having a more positive impression of Trump’s second term than his first.  I don’t agree with everything he is doing, but I do agree with many of the things he has done so far.

  • I thought the Democrats' behavior at the president's speech was rude and disgusting. I get that they don't like Trump, but to act the way they did when a young cancer patient was made an honorary secret service agent, and a high school student got the wonderful news that he has been admitted to West Point, was just simply ignorant.

  • A colleague of mine came to me the other day and told me that she and her husband are seriously thinking of moving to Canada. Why? Because of Trump. This is a reasonable and well-educated woman and I don't understand why she and her husband would pull up roots and move to Canada because they don't agree with the President's politics. Seems extreme to me. I remember when we lived in Arizona and some people were going to flee to Mexico because Obama was elected. I thought that was stupid too. I'm an American and even if I don't agree with everything that's going on, I'm here to stay.

That’s all for now. If you want to join in with Hodgepodge, the link is here. Thanks for stopping by.  I’ll see you again soon!

Until next time,
