Here are some scenes from our ordinary mid-June weekend.
We started our weekend Friday morning by getting some exercise by walking at the mall. We went to the mall instead of the rec center because I needed a battery for my watch, so we got that after our walk.
We are still working on getting stuff out of our house in preparation for moving - hopefully next summer. I went through all of my teacher files and now Charly is going through his. He went through two containers Friday and recycled quite a bit, as you can see in our recycling container.
Although our temperatures were well into the 90s on Friday, in the evening it cooled down into the 80s so I took a little walk around the neighborhood. It was a lovely day and evening, even if a bit hot for this time of year.
Saturday was Flag Day, so I put out three small flags in our yard. I have a larger flag, but it gets caught on our front wrought iron railing when the breeze blows it.
I put this patriotic, God Bless America door hanger on my front door. I plan to keep it up until after July 4.
Charly and I walked at the mall again Saturday morning, then, we stopped at Maverik on the way home. Charly likes to get a refill of soda and a hot dog for lunch on Saturday.
Later Saturday afternoon, Josh wanted to go to the rec center and another walk sounded good to me too, so I had my second walk of the day.
We met up with friends for dinner on Saturday night. We had a nice visit and catch-up chat at Village Inn. We try to get together every month or two. We've been friends since very early in both of our marriages. We met when we were neighbors clear back in the 1980s.
Sunday morning was beautiful - clear, sunny, and warm. We went to church and heard some good messages about Fathers and also a special musical number from the children in our congregation.
In the afternoon, I baked some super easy cake mix cookies because I wanted Charly to have a sweet treat on Father's Day. The darker cookies were made from spice cake mix and the lighter cookies were from a Duncan Hines Butter Golden cake mix. I chose not to frost them because they were good without it and both Charly and I are watching our calories and sugar intake.
Charly was well remembered on Father's Day with cards, a Barnes & Noble gift card, texts, and a phone call with our daughter and grandchildren.
Our Sunday dinner was an easy favorite - one pan-baked chicken, potatoes, and green beans with butter and Italian seasoning. We also had kale salad and corn on the cob. It was all delicious!
Finally, this Father's Day, I want to express gratitude for my husband who is a loving, kind, and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is a good man who believes in and tries to follow God and Godly principles. He is a great blessing to me, our children, and our grandchildren! I truly hope he has had a Happy Father's Day!
Weekend gratitude:
- Josh finishing his first full week at his new full-time job that gives him good starting pay and full benefits. He likes his job and employer. He is pleased to have a full-time "adult job" and so are we!
- Having our two grandchildren who were on mission trips return home safely.
- Spending time with Charly.
- Meeting up with friends for dinner.
- Worshipping at church.
- Hearing from our daughter and grandchildren.
- Being blessed with a good, Godly father who raised me and a wonderful, faithful man (Charly) who is our children's father and my partner through time and eternity.
Praying for:
- Our daughter who is battling migraine headaches.
- Josh who is looking for a Godly Christian woman to date and marry.
- A friend who is dealing with Parkinson's disease.
- Inspiration about exactly when within the next ten months I should retire. We are having another retirement planning session next week.
- Our nation.
That's all for now. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good week!
Until next time,
😊Deb💖
