More From Rocky Mountain National Park

 Here is a bit more about the day we spent in beautiful Rocky Mountain National Park.

One of the interesting places we saw while in Rocky Mountain National Park was the Holzwarth Historic Site.  This is where the Holzwarth family had a tourist ranch from the late 1800s until the 1970s.  

This is one of the original historic cabins.  Today, it is locked up and no longer in use.

The setting of the ranch is a lovely meadow next to the Colorado River. That's right, this is the "Mighty Colorado" just a few miles from its original source high in the Rocky Mountains. 

I thought is was so interesting that this river that carved the Grand Canyon and provides water to much of the Western U.S. is little more than a shallow stream in Rocky Mountain National Park. 

Here are some more pictures of the beautiful meadow and trail at the Holzwarth Historic Site.

Our last stop of the day in Rocky Mountain National Park was the Green Mountain Trail. This trail was in a part of the forest that was engulfed in a large forest fire in October 2022. Although all of the trees in the area were burned, the ground with carpeted with a lush garden of wildflowers.  It was amazing!  I had honestly never seen so many wildflowers in one place. Here are some pictures of this beautiful trail with all those wildflowers.

Because this trail was our last hike of the day and we were tired, we didn't complete the whole thing, but I am hopeful that we can came back and finish this trail and see more wildflowers next time we visit this park.

Rocky Mountain National Park

While we were staying in Granby, Colorado, we went to Rocky Mountain National Park, which was only about 20 miles away.  We drove through the park on the main road.  Here are some pictures from our day in this beautiful National park. 

We drove through the park up to the Alpine Visitor's Center where we hiked further to the top of the peak which was in the Alpine Tundra zone, above the treeline.  There had been a major fire in the park in October 2020, and some of the pictures show the burned trees.  My next post will include pictures of an old dude ranch in the park, the Colorado River, and a hike with of the most magnificent array of wild flowers I have ever seen.
